When’s Your Next Cyber Emergency Drill?

Major office fires don’t happen very often, but that doesn’t lessen the importance of conducting a regular drill. Drills matter because people become desensitised to alarms. When the real alarm sounds, complacency can be just as dangerous as the threat itself — and the same logic applies to cyber incidents.
Fire safety has long been treated as a compliance exercise: extinguishers in place, exits marked, a routine test on the calendar. Incident response for a cyber attack deserves the same disciplined cadence. If your team has never rehearsed the steps, the first time they perform them will be under live pressure, with an attacker already inside.
Government guidance on detection and the right equipment reinforces a simple principle: response readiness is built before the event, not during it. Planning, people, and tooling must be aligned so that when a breach occurs, containment and remediation begin within minutes, not days.
Within the CARM ecosystem, rapid remediation and mitigation are designed to slot into that rehearsed workflow. A drill reveals gaps — in playbooks, in contact lists, in tooling integration — and gives the team a chance to close them before an adversary does.
So when is your next cyber emergency drill? If the honest answer is “we haven’t scheduled one,” that is the place to start.
